In this issue, we will take a look at the shutter speed dial on Asahi Optics’s 1973 manual focus film SLR camera.

ASAHI PENTAX SPOTMATIC F (Reference product)

This is a film SLR camera with a steel silver body and black pasted leather, released in 1973.

The shutter speed dial is located next to the shutter button and film winding lever.

A disk-shaped dial with speed values from 1 to 1/1000th of a second is marked in white color.

On one side of the center of the dial is a window showing the film sensitivity.

The film sensitivity is set by pulling the flat knurled portion of the circumference up to set the value.

The flat knurled section of the smooth eye can be clearly seen.

In this issue, we introduced the shutter speed dial of Asahi Optics’s manual focus SLR camera released in 1973.

As was the case with the Canon FX introduced in the previous issue, the shutter speed and film sensitivity dials are shared for this Asahi Pentax SPOTMATIC F as well.

The knurled part to be picked up by hand has a smooth design, making the dial gentle to the hand.

We will continue to introduce various shutter speed dial designs in the future, so please look forward to it!

Thank you again for reading this column.
